Japan 2015 a selection of Ricoh GR black and white images.

Many Japanese photographers have produced images and photobooks in high contrast black and white. Luckily the Ricoh GR camera has a setting that reproduces that look and it was fun trying to capture images in that style as I explored Japan.

Hama-rikyu Gardens Tokyo October 2015

Hama-rikyu gardens Tokyo were originally part of a residence built in 1654 which eventually became the family garden of the Tokugawa Shoguns. After the Meiji restoration the gardens became a detached palace of the Imperial family. It was damaged during the war then donated to the city for public use in 1945 and was repaired and restored eventually opening to the public in 1946.

The main pond is tidal and filled with salt water as the land was reclaimed from the sea when the original house was built.
